Note: These four UID label formats use NiceLabel® software. |
Steps to Create and Print a UID Label or Tag:
Step 1: If you have NiceLabel software, you must replace the global variable file in your current NiceLabel installation. Search for the file globals.tdb and replace it with the globals.tdb file that is supplied here.
Step 2: Save these IUID/UID label file formats to your hard drive or network location.
Step 3: Open the file. These templates are set-up for printing labels with the Pronto! 486 high-resolution barcode printer. If you have another barcode printer, you can select your printer from the list.
Step 4: Adjust the size of the label layout to fit the size of your label, if necessary. This template is already set-up for printing an IUID/UID label in the size 3” x 2” (76.2 mm x 50.8mm)
Step 5: You should now be able to print your own UID labels. Print a test label to be sure.
Note on Valid Layout for IUID/UID Labels:
The four NiceLabel® UID label formats available for download here are not the only possible designs that will satisfy DoD requirements, but they are the most common UID label layout. The DoD does not restrict its contractors to the use of a particular label size. The layout of a UID label is somewhat freeform and dependent on the amount of available space on your product. The MIL-STD allows for alternate UID label layouts when space is tight. However, the format of the data in the 2D Data Matrix barcode is strictly governed by the UID label standard and should not be changed.
